Not that I’m surprised that the Archdiocese of Montreal is having this problem
Catholicism in Quebec has long been a strange animal — indeed, since the Quiet Revolution, it has been a rather limp-armed thing, unlike in the rest of the country.
Which is why I’m not totally surprised that at an event organized by the social action committee for the Montreal diocese, Hamas supporters turned up to chant anti-Israel, pro-jihad slogans.
Nor am I much surprised by the response of the diocese’s response to the matter, by attempting to simultaneously a) downplay the number of Hamas supporters present and hateful things said, and b) distance itself from the people and their message of genocide.
As opposed to just admitting the fault and strongly condemning the message of the Hamas supporters, and Hamas itself.
