So my wife, she’s pretty cool…
I mean, you all knew that anyhow.
But in this specific case, let me tell you about her rather unique ability to hunt down the perfect gift. Seriously, she’s that good.
Okay, first, the gift itself is seriously cool: a updated, revised, hardcover version of the New Jerome Biblical Commentary. I realize that I’m probably one of only a small subset of people who would think that something worth “geeking out” over, but even so…how cool is that? An exhaustive collection of historical and exegetical commentary on basically every verse of Scripture!
It’s cool enough that she managed to find a brand new one for me, apparently at a reasonable price. And in hardcover, no less! Cooler still, however, is the fact that she ordered it from Amazon.com’s British portal!
She’s thorough that way.
Actually, she’s done this before: a couple of years back, she got me the third season of Battlestar Galactica (the new series) on DVD, again from Amazon.co.uk. Which, in addition to meaning I had BSG’s third season on DVD months ahead of North America, I also got to tinker with the DVD player and figure out just how easy it was to make the thing “region free” (answer: very).
And you know…there’s just something about tearing into that packaging that a book shipped by Amazon comes in. It’s so satisfying.
Anyhow, this is just a wee bit of a shout out of thanks to Grace for the way cool birthday gift, and for her exhaustive efforts to bring it in for a good price. Most people probably wouldn’t think to shop “in England” (in effect) for a gift for an Albertan.
