Random musing re: honour killings and sex changes

In noting the death of Noor Almaleki, Mark Steyn remarks thusly:

Noor Almaleki, whom I wrote about over the weekend, has died, the latest Western victim of a Muslim honor killing. If there were a Matthew Shepard murder every few months, Frank Rich et al would be going bananas about the “climate of hate” in our society, but you can run over your daughter, decapitate your wife, drown three teenage girls and a polygamous spouse, and progressive opinion and the press couldn’t give a hoot. Indeed, as The Atlanticnotes, it’s merely an obsession of us right-wing kooks.

Meanwhile, in remarking on the sorry state of Canadian health care, Kathy Shaidle notes:

Actual sick woman denied needed REAL surgery due to Canadian rationing.

Ended up having her bladder removed.

BUT: yet another completely unconvincing amputation addict “transsexual” gets a completely unnecessary, taxpayer funded “sex change operation,” no problem!

Once again, the Establishment brushes off normal people but caters to freaks and pests.

And you know…I can’t help but see a connection. Normalcy — people wanting treatment for legitimate medical conditions, people wanting to escape the idiocy and repression of Islam — get the short shrift in the media and the halls of hospitals and government buildings. But sexual deviants and radical Muslims? Newsboys, doctors, and politicians can’t bend over far enough, let alone fast enough.

Suddenly, Mark Shea’s phrase “Freakish Enemies of the Normal” makes sense to me.
