New York to celebrate Chinese communism
NEW YORK — New York’s iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.
The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People’s Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.
Seriously? This is an occasion worth celebrating?
I mean, okay, I guess the red could symbolize the blood of millions of peasant farmers, student protesters, political dissidents, aborted babies (especially female babies), Tibetans and Falun Gong adherents murdered by the Chinese state over the last six decades. The yellow could represent the rice Mao and his successors took from the rural poor, causing wave after wave of starvation.
Somehow, though, I rather doubt that China’s abysmal human rights record will merit a mention whilst the Empire State Building is Orientally adorned.
What a sham this is, and how utterly shameful.
