Wyoming Trip: Day Five

6:00

Despite setting my alarm with an eye toward sleeping in, I was up pretty early. Later than I might otherwise have been, yes, but still earlier than intended. C’est la vie; I am well and truly programmed, and I suppose there’s little point in trying to fight that reality.

I wasn’t hungry when I woke up, so I sat down and opened the documents I intended to work on — and finish with — today. The diagram I have to prepare is actually pretty close to complete already, and I don’t imagine it should be too much trouble to polish it off. I also sent out a couple of emails to address some concerns that emerged during my first day at Bridger.

7:30

Having finally worked up an appetite, I headed to the hotel lobby for breakfast. They serve the same thing every day, but I don’t say that intending it to be a complaint. It was nice to be able to sit and enjoy my breakfast, rather than scarf it down whilst running to my vehicle.

8:30

I didn’t feel like getting directly back to work, so I posted the promised panoramics to the blog here instead. Not surprisingly, I see now at this later hour that it’s been the most-viewed article of the day.

Tomorrow, I’ll have to post those panoramics, and maybe even the…er…bonus images I created out of them.

9:00

Remembering that I’d left something unfinished, I opened up the mobile website and made a few more changes thereto. I haven’t yet implemented the gallery, but the rest of the site is now essentially ported over, and I’m reasonably satisfied with the two templates; both render fairly well on my , and I’m hoping users of other mobile devices will report similar good news.

If you, good reader, have some manner of mobile, Internet-enabled device, please do point your browser to www.mixedchorus.ca and see if you are redirected to m.mixedchorus.ca. If not, do let me know. And if you are redirected, please do let me know if the page rendered well or poorly.

I’m reasonably confident that it will look just fine in the browser, given that the Touch uses the same browser. In particular, I’d be curious to hear what and users see…but any mobile device results are of course welcome news.

9:30

messaged me via and we chatted for a bit. It sounds as though has started sleeping in a bit later (after getting up for a morning snack, apparently), which is really cool. The 5:00 AM wakeups were fun and all, but it’s nice to hear that my wife is getting to sleep in a bit now.

10:00

With the morning chat with Grace and the revisions to the UAMC website done, I got back to work on the diagram. I’ve got a fair bit of cross-referencing to do between all the files I got from my contacts st the , so I’ll likely be poring over documents for a few hours today.

12:00

Grace and Ella called me via , and while video at their end still doesn’t work properly (what the heck did that kidlet DO?), they could see me…and Grace assures me that Ella was just so delighted to see her papa.

And here I am, a thousand miles away.

You know, I like my job, and I don’t mind the travel…but I do miss all these little developments that Ella keeps making. “They grow up so fast” is not just some wisftul, nostalgic parental remark; it’s the Gospel truth.

12:30

And just like that, an entire morning’s worth of work gets wiped out. Stupid . Stupid .

Actually, I suppose the fault is with the company’s document management service; if you don’t check a document in properly, it reverts the document to the pre-checked-out state…even if you’ve been saving your work every fifteen minutes as you go.

1:45

Much later than normal, I realized that it was time for lunch. I made myself a sandwich, finishing off the last of the lunchmeat to do so. I could arguably have gone and gotten something, but the truth is that I’m really enjoying these sandwiches I’ve been making, and I’m not feeling particularly compelled to depart from the lunch menu I’ve been following all the time I’ve been down here.

I wandered down to the hotel lobby as well and noticed that the coffee creams from the morning were still out in their bins, so I grabbed a few of these and made myself a pot of coffee back in my room. A little coffee goes nicely with the paperwork.

2:45

If I get a chance, I have to upload pictures from Michelle and Parker’s wedding and email them a link thereto.

5:30

I’ve switched to alternating between doing photo editing and doing paperwork. Some twit uploaded a bunch of photos to his account without properly tagging them or appending descriptions, and now has nearly a thousand photos to sort through so as to tag and label each of them.

On the other hand, the diagram is coming along swimmingly; it didn’t take me that long to re-create the changes lost from this morning.

6:15

Almost like clockwork, the evening Skype call from Grace and Ella came in. I really wish the webcam at Grace’s end was working, because it’s obvious just from the audio that Ella keeps doing all manner of very cute things, and I’d love to see even a few seconds worth of them.

It’s good to hear that my girls are doing fine, but at the same time it does make one rather homesick. Rock Springs is nice and all, but I’d rather be in , kissing my wife and playing with my baby girl (maybe not at the same time, but I hope the good reader catches my drift).

I’m basically done my work on the Naughton stuff, apart from some double-checking of figures and quantities. This is the goal I wanted to achieve today, and I’m glad it’s done.

6:45

In need of dinner and sandwich fixings (well, lunchmeat), I headed out from the hotel. The is reasonably close, and I can decide what I want for dinner on the walk there.

7:15

I feel like . And the nice thing about getting a pizza for dinner is that it gives me enough for two nights worth of eating.

7:45

I’m back at the hotel and sorting through photos. I don’t have any to add to this article, sadly, but I’ll see about giving you, the good reader, a glimpse of the fruits of my previous visit to Rock Springs with tomorrow’s writing.

11:45

Is that the time? I need to post a Pic of the Day and hit the sack!
