Jenny Lynch hates her some bloggers
BCF has the details, but here’s the basic “goings on”: CHRC honcho Jennifer Lynch went before CASHRA (the principal governmental grievance-handling body in Canada) with “a long list of complaints against bloggers and journalists who she feels have unfairly pointed out that the CHRC is a criminally corrupt, radical left wing, rights abusing cesspool that’s been hijacked by extremists.” (Sorry for the direct quote, but I really can’t do better than BCF’s phrasing.)
Evidently, she’s not at all pleased at the fact that the HRCs have been compared to the Gestapo, that they have been lambasted as being corrupt rackets, secretive, and downright wacky in their selective application of “justice.” She’s also not pleased at how bloggers and journalists alike have worked to undermine the credibility of the commissions and the employees thereof.
Well, gee…that’s a right pity. Who doesn’t hate being called out for his or her transgressions? Of course, there’s an easy way to avoid being criticized as a censorship-enforcing, rights-denying, Gestapo-esque busybody: don’t act like one (and also: don’t run a department that acts that way).
Oops. Small problem there.
Mark Steyn weighs in with a few further thoughts, noting the inherent irony in the whole situation. There’s something there, to be sure.
Me? I can only think to say to Jenny Lynch: “Awww…muffin!” At the same time, I find myself wondering if this isn’t her inept way of deploying menacing rhetoric prior to staging a massive anti-blogger backlash. I kind of doubt it, to be sure…the more charitable assumption would simply be that she’s an idiot who can’t see, with her own two eyes, just how flagrant her department’s own abuses of fundamental human rights have become.
Not that I don’t think for a moment that Jenny Lynch wouldn’t want to see each and every blogger who has ever said anything unkind about the HRCs fined into serfdom, mind you.
Apparently, the Parliamentary hearings into the CHRC and its powers begins today. Lynch has evidently refused to attend. Here’s hoping that in her elective absence, one or two cornerstones are ripped from the walls of her makeshift kingdom.
A repeal of section 13 of the CHRA would be a fine start.
