I snagged this shot back in September of 2007 as well, while on the way to meet some of the guys from the Rover Crew at the pub. The Sun had set pretty low by this point of the day, but an errant band of cloud was catching the light…just right.

I like to joke that the dragon (not pictured) is just off to the right. Doesn’t that cloud look rather like a tongue of flame?

Within five minutes of this picture being taken, all the colour had gone from the scene — that’s actually a pretty wide window in which to take a shot, but it does still communicate just how “on the ball” one sometimes has to be to capture a good image. I’ve missed lots of stuff over the years for the simple reason that it’s not always possible to get one’s lens into position fast enough.

But this time, I got the image I was aiming for.

Edit-wise, I boosted the orange saturation a bit, and darkened the houses in the foreground (quick processes both thanks to Lightroom).
