Pic of the Day #437
Time for another series of photos: the honeymoon in Greece.
This first shot was taken pretty early in the morning. Grace and I arrived in Athens pretty late on the 24th of October, and the hotel we stayed at was on Omonia Square. If you’ve ever been to Omonia, you know that its kinda dirty, really noisy, and just generally not the most pleasant place to be, especially if you prefer, say, the tempo and pace of life typically associated with small rural towns.
So we got up pretty early and made our way to the port of Pireaus, which was every bit as busy as the rest of the city. The air was a bit more fresh, at least.
A number of people who have seen the honeymoon photos have commented that they liked this shot, a picture of a typically busy street in Pireaus. So it becomes the first Pic of the Day in the Greece series. This is basically what Grace and I decided we didn’t want to put up with after we arrived in Athens, and we were in Pireaus to buy tickets to one of the islands in order to escape.
Edit-wise, I didn’t do much to this picutre, aside from some highlight recovery and fringe reduction. I didn’t really bother with calibration on the image, because I was actually shooting in JPEG mode instead of RAW, which meant that I could use the camera’s built-in sharpening and saturation boosts. And yes, technically I can use those in RAW mode too, but at the time it seemed too much of a hassle. That, and I didn’t want to be editing these photos for the next five months — honeymoon photos are something people will start asking to see no more than three days after one starts work again.
