Pic of the Day #314
Grace noticed this cloud formation while we were stopping at Safeway to grab a few groceries.
I’ve always struggled to coax a lot of detail out of a picture of clouds, but for some strange reason this shot — which was certainly one of the hastiest shots I’ve ever taken — worked out rather well. I suspect it has much to do with the fact that the cloud itself has a lot of contour, and that the sun was setting behind me, thus casting a rather particular light on the whole scene.
And what nature didn’t provide, Direct Positive did. This was a fairly easy shot to edit, as it was taken at ISO 100 and therefore needed no appreciable level of noise reduction. The Direct Positive preset really did a number on the colour of the clouds (especially those deep blue tones in the background), and a bit of contrast adjustment brought out the shaping of the foreground cloud so very well.
Yeah, overall I’m quite pleased with this shot. Thanks, love, for spotting it!
