Pic of the Day #133

Kenneth Hynek31st Jan 2007Photography, Pic of the Day

So I’ve been going through my dad’s slide collection and doing some scanning — he has, among other neat things, pictures of Mixed Chorus tours (1976 and 1977, notably) that I’m curious to scan in and take a closer look at.

All in due time, of course.  As you will see, there are, shall we say, more than a few slides for me to go through.

Just to give some perspective, I’m thinking it will take me about 120 evenings just to get through the four boxes you see on the table, O Reader.  And by “boxes”, I mean the larger cases.  The smaller cases off to the right will take additional time atop that.  Visible to the left is a hint of a photo album as well, and I have many of those to sort through as well.

Fortunately, I have about two years (well, let’s call it 18 months) to complete this project that I’ve begun (an anniversary slideshow for my parents’ 30th year together), so I figure my chances of completing it are…decent, at least.

Not all the pictures will make it into the slideshow, of course, but I’d like to be able (as well) to present my parents with a digitized archive of their old photos.  It’s interesting going through the slide cases, which contain earlier photos taken primarily by my dad…he was as much a shutterbug as I am now.  I guess we know where I got that from, don’t we?

Relatively low ISO in this shot, made possible by both the bright overhead light and the stabilizer.  And the tripod.  One thing I did have to do is manually focus, as the lens was having a bit of trouble finding enough contrast detail in the rows upon rows of oddly uniform slides.  Fortunately, the mark one eyeball is more discriminating.

Where was this taken?
